“Speech is power; speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
On Wednesday, the 3rd of November, Central High International School hosted an Inter-House Debate Competition themed, “Should students be permitted to use personal digital gadgets in class?”
The competition’s goal was to improve students’ public speaking skills and educate them on how to be articulate when expressing their views and opinions both at school and within the corporate world (upon leaving school).
The speakers from Mulanje, Nyika, Viphya, and Zomba houses spoke eloquently and gave the judges a run for their money! The open session granted to the House was yet another event highlight, with its torrent of dynamic views on the theme for the day.
The top place went to Zomba House, followed by Mulanje House. Nyika House was placed third, and Viphya House was placed fourth.
The Power House of Speakers comprised of Shammah Dunga, Menusha Amerasinghe, Hanaan Mia (Zomba), Umar, Shlesh Patel, Hayfa Khan ( Nyika), Runakorwashe Nyamanhindi, Siya Chovatiya, Levi Josiya(Mulanje), Meghan Mwachande, Zaafirah Mussa and Omah (Viphya), but set apart from the pack as overall best speaker was Shammah Dunga.
