Setting the stage as the underdogs by all and sundry in the days leading up to this year’s Annual Sports Meet, Viphya House surpassed every spectator’s expectation. Witnessing Viphya’s remarkable comeback from the bottom of the leaderboard in previous years is an understatement.
Mulanje House was completely set in its winning streak of the past three consecutive years that even Nyika House’s threat to usurp the status quo barely held water. No wonder Nyika House missed the coveted first position by a whisker.
Your imagination must be running wild as you picture the momentum, hype and electric atmosphere on the Sporting Field and House Tents for three whole days.
In spite of the excruciatingly hot weather on the final day of the Annual Sports Meet, the fight in every competitor and cheerer did not fizzle out: from the traditional march around the Sporting Field by each Sporting House; to the signature Torch Lighting Ceremony, graced by our esteemed Guest of Honour Henry Meleka, Acting Secretary of the Malawi National Council of Sports to the Medal Ceremony and of course – the announcement of this year’s winner which sent Viphya House into a frenzy.
