Without a language, communication is difficult and knowing the intricate of a language makes communication better and one is easily understood. There are a number of languages that are universally used of which English and French are some of them. At CHIS English Language is the backbone of all other subjects as it is the media of communication.
One can be brilliant in any subject but when the basic knowledge of English language used is minimum, then one experiences a lot of difficulties. English Language is compulsory from Year 7 to Year 11 and from 7 to 9 the students are taught first language, affording students the chance to build a good foundation.
In year 10 and 11 pupils do either First Language or Second Language according to the Checkpoint results. Knowledge of a Second Language makes one competitive and in young people it keeps the brain alive and active which delays dementia by about five years.
French is one such subject offered at CHIS students who take the two languages are marketable both at universities and jobs as they are able to switch from one language to another easily.
General Paper is taken only at AS level. The subject teaches research methods, organisation, structure and essay writing techniques.
The main purpose of the course is to develop students’ maturity of thought and logical presentation of learning material in continuous writing assignments. The subject is important especially for students who are pursuing studies in Humanities at both AS and A2 levels.
